I've been a horrible slacker lately........ :p So here's a few things to get caught up on:

Ruthie's birthday ~ apparently she turned 14 this year........... :)

I was almost ready to give up my usual holiday baking this year since I lost my spacious kitchen and the new one is ummm, rather small shall we say! :p

However, my former boss told me I could use his kitchen (lots of room and TWO ovens!) so I went out there on Saturday and baked to my little heart's content! Should have seen me wearing out those 2 ovens! :p

Made 8 different cookies, 7 of which I have never made before! I won't make all of them again but I had fun trying out new recipes!

We had brunch at my house complete with muffins, Ziploc omelets, muffins, fruit, and muffins! (we had a few muffins in case you were wondering!) :) About 30 peoples showed up!!

Small project

Just a small project to fit between the BIG ones :)

Tammy found this cute coffee dish towel at the dollar store. I used it to make a draft stopper for her backdoor (her kitchen is ALL about the coffee decor!)

Super easy to make: Turn towel inside out and sew opening creating a tube. Sew one end closed and turn right side out. Fill with dry beans and then sew the end closed.

I *finally* finished my very first quilt! I made it for Bria (Chad & Megen's little one) who was born in March. I didn't feel too bad about the delay ~ my excuse was that she wouldn't have needed it in the summer anyway!! :)

I've been wanted to make my own pesto for awhile and I knew it wouldn't be difficult ~ it was just a matter of finally getting to it!

Fresh basil ~ smells so wonderful :)

It turned out so delicious! Better than any bottled kind I have bought. Had it for dinner last night with rice noodles & grilled chicken! yum-yum :)

Granola Bars!

I love homemade granola bars! They never taste the same but they are always delicious!!

Oats & sweetened condensed milk:

Stir to coat oats:

Add some dried fruit: mangos, craisins, pineapples
Add some sweets: this time I used candy coated sunflower seends & dark chocolate chips

Pop them into the oven,

And 25 minutes later you have some wonderful granola bars!

I found directions here on how to sew a baby doll sling and decided to make one for Kaylee since she has so many "kids" and may need her hands free!

Thai Chicken Stir-Fry Salad

For those who want the recipe for the yummy salad that was pictured in my previous post, here it is (thanks Heidi!):

THAI CHICKEN STIR-FRY SALAD

Dressing:

1 (1-inch) piece fresh gingerroot
3/4 cup creamy poppy seed salad dressing
2 garlic cloves, pressed

Salad:
1 medium cucumber
1 small red bell pepper
1 (6 oz) package fresh baby spinach leaves
1 (12 oz) package broccoli slaw mix

Chicken Mixture:
1/4 cup snipped fresh basil
1/4 cup peanuts
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1. In classic batter bowl, combine salad dressing and garlic. Grate the gingerroot and squeeze the juice into the dressing. Whisk until well blended and set aside.

2. Thinly slice cucumber and bell pepper; cut cucumber slices in half. Place spinach, slaw mix, cucumber and bell pepper into large bowl; refrigerate until ready to serve.

3. For chicken mixture, snip basil and chop peanuts. Cook chicken; cut into bite-size cubes. Add basil, peanuts and chicken to dressing mixture. Toss to coat.

4. To serve, top salad with chicken mixture.

Yield: 8 servings

Community Fun Run

Lindsey & I wanted to do something fun, like run a race (or walk)!. We looked into the Race for the Cure (on a Sunday), the MS walk (on a Sunday) and then we found the Community Fun Run which helps support the developmentally challenged. So we looked high and low and got a team together!

And we're off:

This winter has been crazy! First it snows and snows and snows and we think it's never going to stop and then it rains like crazy making everything a complete and total mess. I can't believe how much snow disappeared in two days! I did get this funny picture though and just had to show you.

This is just from how the snow melted. I came home and all the snow had melted from my planter barrels except this little section giving my frog a charming little snow hat!!

The building behind my office caught fire and it was a doozy! We could feel the heat from our yard.

And then our parking lot turned into a lake from all the water they were spraying and we also have a rushing river going down our street!

And then on top of all that we got evacuated because of a threat of Anhydrous Ammonia! So who knows when we will get back in there!! Which is great to get to leave early but at this time of year I have way too much stuff to do to be fooling off!!

So since it's been snowing for over 24 hours now, this is what happens................

When I started shoveling there was about 12 inches and by the time I got done, the area where I had started already had about an 1 1/2 of more snow!

And no, that's not a white hat I'm wearing! By the time I came in I had a white crusty snow-hat on my head!

As you can tell, I am thrilled to be out shoveling! I'm just beyond excited at the knowledge that I have to go back out in a little while and DO IT ALL AGAIN!!!!!

So I haven't been doing much of anything lately. Haven't let town, haven't remodeled anymore rooms, have taken any exciting pictures...........

Lindsey & Juliette have both gotten moved in and we are all settling in. The toughest challange we have encountered so far is having only one bathroom for 3 girls! (particularily on Sunday mornings!!) :) We all like to cook so have been having a little bit of fun in the new kitchen!!

The girls have already had a get-together here for the young kids. I don't know yet if being around all these 18-19-20-21 year olds is making me feel old or if they are keeping me young............... :)

After living by myself for awhile I do have to say that it is nice having people around again.

We celebrated Patti's birthday here, 'twas quite fun. (that was also when the family saw what I had done!)

On Saturday we went into Moses Lake for the concert in the park and saw Ricochet (remember - they sang "Daddy's Money")

Here's a video of them in a drum line - it was pretty funny! They said that it wasn't something that we'd ever see at a Dixie Chicks concert!

Welcome to the world, Lindi Marie Robertson. She was born on August 20th. Tammy and I went down to Moses Lake to see her when she was born. What an adorable like girl!!

Purple Potatos!!

This is so random but it was too weird not to share! A guy I work with grows purple potatos. Now when he told me this I assumed he meant that the outside was a purple-ish color. No.......the INSIDE is purple, bright purple! Wouldn't these make for some fun french fries!

The pics are kind of fuzzy but you can tell what a bright color purple they are!

I peeled off just the skin it was even a brighter purple than the inside.

We had a great time at our Murray family reunion in Lincoln City on the Oregon coast.
Mom, Tammy, Izzak, & I traveled together and showed our true selves..................

These are the two kids I take care of on the occasional evening. It's been a dry spell and I hadn't seen them in over a month and I was going through withdrawals! I was so excited when I got to go see them again. Brayden just turned 9 and Andrea just turned 7. I have been taking care of them since Brayden was 4 weeks old so I'm a little attached to say the least!

And here they are stalling before bedtime "take one more picture. now just one more. now I need just one more picture of me too."

On the Fourth of July we went to Grand Coulee Dam to see the laser light show and watch the fireworks.

While we were waiting a fire broke out up in the hills. It's hard to see with that tree right in the way but that orange speck is the fire. They managed to get it contained rather quickly or else that could have been really bad!!

And then the fireworks. As you can see the "fireworks" setting on my camera is really swell!

I spent Fourth of July weekend helping Brent & Laureen move into their new house outside of Wilbur. I had fun taking pictures of all the fun stuff on their property. (Notice how I didn't seem to get any pictures of the actual house!!)

Old red barn - very cool. Scared the birds that are living inside it when we went to check it out!
